Welcome to Auto Shop

The skills and knowledge you gain here will enable you to maintain and repair your own vehicles and could put you on the path to a rewarding career.

Automotive technology is advancing rapidly and a higher level of expertise is required.  In addition to mechanical skills, today's technicians need strong computer and logical thinking skills and a good grasp of technical principles.  These demands do not go unrewarded.  Highly skilled technicians earn upwards of $100,000 a year.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Terra Linda High School / Marin ROP Automotive Technology program is to enable students to:

  1. acquire an understanding of the operation of mechanical systems (head)
  2. gain proficiency in entry-level automotive service skills (hands) 
  3. practice habits and attitudes of professionalism needed for success in any field (heart)

Students will:

  1. Work safely and follow the safety rules
  2. Take care of facilities, vehicles, tools and equipment
  3. Behave responsibly
  4. Treat other people with respect

Students will not:

  1. Vandalize, deface or steal property
  2. Harass, bully, put down, threaten or fight with another student
  3. Make racist, sexist or homophobic remarks
  4. Disrupt the class or interfere with learning


Classes prepare students for jobs in automotive and related fields and advanced technical training programs. Students receive instruction in the following areas:
