Scholarship Foundation

The Terra Linda High School Scholarship Foundation was established in January 1975 as a non-profit corporation for the purpose of granting awards to Terra Linda High School graduates who are continuing their education. Awards are made on the basis of goals, accomplishments and school involvement without regard to race, creed or sex. Any student who has a "C" average or higher and who plans to continue his or her education or training may apply.

Please join us for a relaxing evening of wine, beer and cheese tasting while enjoying student art and musical performances. You'll be able to bid on VIP graduation seats and silent auction items. All proceeds go towards scholarships for Terra Linda students.

Applications

Application forms will be distributed in Senior classes early in February of the graduating year. A specific date for their return will be given each year. Thereafter, a subcommittee of Foundation members will review the submitted applications, and present its recommendations to the entire Foundation in early May. The awards will be presented at the Senior Awards shortly before graduation.

Awards and Criteria

The Alumni Scholarship Award for a student with a GPA of at least 8 who plans to attend a trade school or college.

Edwin Bedford Family Honorary Award for a college bound student in liberal arts with an interest in athletics and music.

Hector Benitez Honorary Award for a student runner who has excelled in cross country or track while maintaining a 2.0 or better average.

The Peter Elias Honorary Award for a basketball player who lives up to the ideals espoused by Coach John Wooden – A student who has done his or her best to become the best that he or she is capable of becoming – in basketball,
in school, in the community, in relationships with others.

George Wendel "Bud" Bloom III Memorial Award for a student interested in entering the field of automotive body work.

Lee and Betty Bright Honorary Award will be awarded to a student displaying "initiative" at Terra Linda.

Barbara Den-Otter Memorial Award will be awarded to a student excelling in the performing arts.

Jack Haehl Memorial Art Award for a Visual Arts student who plans to continue his/her artistic development in college and perhaps pursue a career that involves the visual arts.

Ellis D. Jaquette Memorial Award will be awarded to a student excelling in a foreign language.

John T. Kakleas Memorial Award for a football athlete who best displays inspiration and determination in his play and leadership.

Jason Kiesel Memorial Art Award for a student pursuing a career in the commercial arts.

Ruth Levy Memorial Award for a student pursuing their education at a community college.

Patrick K. Long Memorial Award for a student pursuing their education at a 4 year institution.

Dr. Larry Lyon Memorial Award for a student who plans to pursue a career in education.

Flora Mancebo Honorary Award will be awarded to a student excelling in science.

Dr. Edward (Ted) Maxwell Honorary Award for a student who plans to pursue a career in a healthcare related field (medicine, dentistry, nursing, etc).

Charles Metz Memorial Award for a student who has excelled in both mathematics and waterpolo.

John and Harriet Michael Award Honoring Mr. Peter Paolino for a student who has succeeded in spite of a learning disability.

Peter J. Muzio Memorial Awards. One award for a student who has completed two years of Honors English and one award for a student who has participated in community service. Both awards require a GPA of at least 2.0 and no higher
than 3.5.

Jerry Russom Memorial Award for a U.S. citizen, California resident, with a GPA between 2.0 and 3.5, and a "Consistent Achiever" (positive worker in school activities, positive attitude, good citizenship, community activities).

Larry Samuel Memorial Award for a student who has participated in sports and served as a volunteer in youth sports programs in the community.

Scotty’s Market Award for community involvement.

The Hugh Silvis Memorial Award (sponsored by the Lions Club) for a student highly involved in community service and interested in broadcasting or other performing arts.

Josephine Smith Memorial Award for a hardworking student who has a GPA of 2.0 or higher and has contributed to Terra Linda High School through service, athletics, etc.

The Arcima Taylor Memorial Award for a student highly involved in community service and planning to pursue a career in education.

TL Home School Club Honorary Award will be awarded to a student excelling in mathematics.

TL Staff Memorial Award will be awarded using Foundation criteria.

Susan Wyatt Memorial Award for a student who has excelled in student journalism or been active in student government while maintaining high academic standards.

Hank Yamagata Memorial Award for a student who will participate in college athletics or major in physical education, physical or rehabilitation therapy, or sports medicine.

Foundation Awards for outstanding students.

Annual Wine & Cheese Fundraiser

To help the Foundation sustain many of its awards, it sponsors a spring Annual Wine and Cheese Fundraiser. We invite the Terra Linda community to come, sample some local wines and cheeses, take a chance at our raffle, and spend a pleasant evening with other Terra Linda supporters. Terra Linda student entertainment is the highlight of the evening!
