KATY DUNLAP, PRINCIPAL

                                                                            katy.jpg

Advancing in her role from Assistant Principal for five years at Terra Linda High School, to the position of Principal during the 2015-16 school year at TLHS is Mrs. Katy Dunlap. During her tenure as Assistant Principal at TLHS, Mrs. Dunlap has been instrumental in building the MarinSEL program, increasing Advanced Placement and Honors course offerings and enrolment, and expanding the electives offerings for our students.

As Katy has sought opportunities to grow as an educator, she has proven to be particularly adept at interacting in a positive, productive fashion with teachers, students, parents and members of our community at-large. In March 2013, Katy led Terra Linda in receiving the highest level of accreditation by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), receiving a full six year cycle of accreditation through 2019.

Katy’s passion is in providing every student a rigorous and engaging high school experience, thus preparing all students for future success in college and beyond. She is committed to implementing intensive and strategic interventions for struggling learners, and providing every student a challenging and meaningful high school education. Katy is a visionary who clearly understands that the primary mission of a school system is to provide opportunities for all learners to achieve at the highest levels.

Katy came to San Rafael City Schools after serving eight years as an Assistant Principal at Vintage High School in the Napa Valley Unified School District. In that role, Katy provided leadership and administrative oversight in curriculum and instruction as well as school-wide data analysis, budgets, athletics, and student activities. She worked extensively with two federal Smaller Learning Communities Grants and secured for NVUSD a federal Magnet Grant valued at over $6.6 million. Prior to her work at Vintage High School, Katy was an Assistant Principal at American Canyon Middle School for two years, and an English teacher for three years at Redwood Middle School.

Katy earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications, with a journalism emphasis from Santa Clara University, and went on to obtain her teaching credentials from Saint Mary’s College of California in Moraga. She completed her Master’s Degree in Education Administration at Sonoma State University.

Katy and her husband Jerry, an administrator at Napa Valley College, live in Napa and have a daughter Lauren who is in 7th grade. Katy enjoys playing tennis, skiing, and spending time with her family and friends.
